GAYATRI MARTIN
an RN & yoga teacher, was born in New Zealand and has been studying and dancing Argentine tango in New York City and Buenos Aires since 1998. Just 8 months after being caught by the tango bug she travelled to Buenos Aires and lead her first tour with dance partner in
Gayatri co-organized the first 3 NYC Summer Tango Festivals with Lucille Krasne and has been the sole organizer since 2003. She also co-organized then solo organized the NYC New Year's Eve Tango & Salsa Party, Both which she originally co-hosted with Lucille Krasne.
Gayatri has been the sole organizer along with her 'Dream Team' of the Original USA TANGO CHAMPIONSHIP since 2005
Gayatri also created one of New York cities most elegant and successful milongas , LA BOCA. Every Tuesday from November 2001 - December 2008 people wined, dined, danced experienced exceptional guest teachers, musicians and performers in one of the loveliest Tango environments.
Out of her passions for Yoga and tango, and her love for New Zealand and Buenos Aires, Gayatri founded "Tango Tours with a Twist". Her tours pioneered the combination of tango with yoga classes and sightseeing. She was also the first person to have an intensive seminar tour and was fortunate to do so with the Legendary late Carlos Gavito in the Dandi Mansion.
In addition to the many talented teachers of the tours Gayatri has taken classes at Dance Manhattan, La Boca and in Buenos Aires. she has also studied with renown teachers such as Carlos Gavito, Omar Vega, Pupy Castillo, Pablo Pugliese, Mariela Franganillo, Daniela Arcuri y Armando Orzuza and Ariel 'Rulo' Prilick,
Gayatri would like to pay special homage to the late Oscar, with whom she had the good fortune to dance many tandas in many milongas on many trips to Buenos Aires. She called him "mi companero de baile de Buenos Aires."
She says, "I find yoga and tango have the common elements that allow us to step into the true reality of the moment, of the movement of the breath, of the music...transitory, yet impacting on one's perception of life, providing unlimited opportunities to create new sensations and experiences."
